Stacked & Stoked

See that stack of work cases. Inside are ten almost ten years of Loose Parts cartoons. I’m just shy of the two foot mark, one sheet at a time.

Those are all the original drawings. It doesn’t seem like much when you’re drawing and inking just seven sheets a paper a week, week in and week out, but this ... wow. It even got my attention.

Thing is, I’m not near done.

Here’s a little confession. About two years ago, I had not one but two, or three really bad writing weeks. That never happened to me before. I was sure I had lost it. There were no more ideas to be had. But know what? I was wrong. I plowed on and today I feel like I’ve just scratched the surface. I think the writing is as good as ever and my drawing, well, after ten years, I’m about ready to admit that it looks almost sort of okay.

What a great thing to be at something for a decade and to feel you’re still getting better. Learning is a marvelous thing.

So spread the word. If you know somebody who doesn’t ready Loose Parts, turn them on to it.

They’ll be catching me at a really good time. And there are stacks to come.

Till later ... stay Loose.
